This policy applies to all users of the Off the Clock Chrome extension. Sections 5–6 describe additional rights specific to users in certain U.S. states.
Off the Clock is a Chrome extension for daily self-reflection and emotional processing — a wellness and self-discovery tool. Off the Clock is not a medical or mental-health service, does not diagnose or treat any condition, and does not provide medical or psychological advice. We are not a HIPAA "covered entity" or "business associate," and Off the Clock is not intended to create protected health information under HIPAA.
a) Your reflections. The daily questions, your answers, and any Deep Reflection conversation. These are stored locally in your browser (chrome.storage.local) on the device where you use Off the Clock.
b) Derived summaries. Small summaries of your reflections ("rollups"), a long-term "profile," and generated weekly/monthly reports — also stored locally, derived from (a).
c) Settings & consent record. Your chosen daily time and a record that you completed onboarding consent (including confirming you are 18+). Stored locally.
d) Anonymous usage data. We collect minimal, first-party usage telemetry: a random install identifier (not linked to your name or email), which features are used and when, request timing, and AI token counts. This never includes the content of your reflections and is used only to operate and improve the service.
e) Payments (if you subscribe to Pro). Purchases are processed by Paddle.com as merchant of record; we never see your card number. We verify your subscription status via a subscription identifier ("Pro key") you enter in the extension. Paddle's handling of your payment data is governed by Paddle's privacy policy.
f) We do not collect: your name, email, contacts, precise location, government IDs, advertising identifiers, or browsing history. We do not use third-party analytics or ad tracking, and we do not store your reflections on our servers.
CCPA categories. Under the California Consumer Privacy Act, the only category of "personal information" Off the Clock processes is internet/electronic activity and the content you voluntarily provide (your reflections). Because reflections can reveal information about your mental or emotional well-being, we treat that content as sensitive and describe it further in §6.
To generate questions, reflective replies, and reports, the text you share is transmitted over an encrypted connection (TLS) to our backend service and then to our AI infrastructure provider, which routes it to the selected model provider (such as Anthropic or Google) to produce a response returned to you.
Our backend is a pass-through proxy: it does not retain the content of your reflections. It logs only the anonymous usage telemetry described in §2(d) — never message text.
California (CCPA/CPRA). You have the right to: know/access the personal information we process; delete it; correct it; opt out of sale or sharing (we do neither); limit the use of sensitive personal information (see §6); and not be discriminated against for exercising these rights. We do not offer financial incentives for your data.
Other states. Residents of states with comprehensive privacy laws — including Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Utah, Texas, Oregon, Montana, and others — have comparable rights to access, delete, correct, and opt out of targeted advertising and sale (which we do not do).
"Shine the Light" (Cal. Civ. Code §1798.83). We do not share personal information with third parties for their own direct-marketing purposes.
How to exercise rights. Because your data is stored locally, you can exercise access and deletion directly — view your entries in the extension and delete them by clearing storage or uninstalling. You may also contact us at loudanqian01@gmail.com. We will verify requests reasonably and respond within the timeframes required by applicable law. You may use an authorized agent where the law allows.
Your reflections may reveal information about your mental or emotional well-being. We treat this as sensitive personal information and use it only to provide the reflection service you requested; we do not use or disclose it to infer characteristics about you, for advertising, or for any purpose beyond providing Off the Clock.
Consumer health data (Washington "My Health My Data Act," Nevada SB 370, and similar). To the extent your reflections are "consumer health data" under these laws:
Off the Clock is for adults. You must be 18 or older. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18 (and thus do not knowingly collect from children under 13 under COPPA). If we learn we have, we will delete it.
We use encryption in transit (TLS) for all communication with our backend and AI providers. Local data is stored using the browser's extension storage and is protected by your device and browser profile. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure. If a breach of personal data occurs, we will notify affected users and authorities as required by applicable law.
Off the Clock is not for emergencies. If you or someone else may be in danger, contact your local emergency number or a crisis line — in the U.S., the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline (call or text 988). Off the Clock may surface such resources but cannot provide crisis support.
We may update this policy. Material changes will be reflected by updating the effective date and, where appropriate, re-requesting your consent in the extension.
